Materials Science and Applied Physics, Spring/Summer 2021

Rachel is a Ph.D. candidate at UC Berkeley, researching new materials for solar energy –– specifically, high-throughput computation, synthesis, and characterization of p-type transparent contact materials for solar and optoelectronic applications under Prof. Kristin Persson. She conducts research at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. She is also the co-founder of Cycle for Science, an adventure-based science education outreach organization that brings scientists to K-12 classrooms by bicycle to teach hands-on STEM lessons about renewable energy and climate change. So far with Cycle for Science she bicycled across the USA in 2015, across California in 2017, and across the Netherlands in 2019, and is looking for adventurous scientists to join future trips. She spends her free time exploring the outdoors and envisioning a renewable-energy-powered future.
